Amador County

Amador County is located approximately 45 miles southeast of Sacramento, in an area known as the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Daytime temperatures range from the mid-80s to more than 100 degrees during the summer. Influences from the Sierra Nevada mountains as well as the Sacramento Delta can tip the nighttime temperatures into the cooler 50-60 degree range. The grapes benefit from this temperature swing producing both high sugar content from the long, warm days and balance with acidity brought on by the cool nights. Amador County is best known for its Zinfandel and Barbera vineyards. Some of these “old vine” vineyards date back as far as the 1850s.
